Miami kicked off rivalry week in the ACC by defeating Pittsburgh 41-31. They are eligible for a spot in the ACC Championship Game with Virginia and North Carolina victories. A lot is at stake both in the conference and nationally this weekend, here is a look:
Florida State at Florida (Saturday, 12 noon)
Florida State has their eye on the national championship and will await their opponent in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte, but they must first dispose of their rival, Florida. The Gators have struggled with a season that will leave them out of a bowl appearance but could play spoilers.
Once again, a lot of news will be in regards to Seminoles quarterback, Jameis Winston who has a sexual assault allegation hovering over him. Thus far, it has not effected his play.
The Seminoles are 2nd in the nation in scoring offense and 2nd in points allowed facing a team who has only averaged 19.9 points a game.
The Gators look to snap a 6 game losing streak in this game against the 2nd ranked team in the nation.
Prediction: Florida State by 33
Duke at North Carolina (Saturday, 12 noon)
With a win, Duke will reserve a spot in the ACC Championship game against Florida State. However, they must get by their arch rival and a team who has won 5 straight games and looking to avenge a loss to Duke last season.
The Tar Heels became bowl eligible last week, putting up 80 points against Old Dominion. Marquise Williams has taken over nicely at quarterback, still without a loss since starting.
Meanwhile, the Blue Devils will look to get the ball to receiver Jamison Crowder who has 83 receptions and over 1000 yards receiving.
In a rivalry that usually plays out on the hardwood, this is one of the biggest games in Duke football history.
Prediction: North Carolina by 4
Wake Forest at Vanderbilt (Saturday, 12:21pm)
The Demon Deacons hope to finish their season on a high note against a surprising Commodore team who is 7-4. Wake looked to have turned their season around but injuries and set backs took their toll and enter the game at 4-7.
Vandy has won 4 of their last 5 games behind the stellar play of Jordan Matthews at receiver. Matthews needs just 4 receptions for 100 receptions to go with 1209 receiving yards.
Tanner Price will lead Wake into battle hoping to snap a 4 game losing streak. The Deacon quarterback has thrown 13 touchdown passes on the season.
Prediction: Vanderbilt by 7
Maryland at N.C. State (Saturday, 12:30pm)
The Terps will seek to improve their bowl positioning while the Wolfpack look to snap a 7 game losing streak in this game.
C.J. Brown leads the Terps at quarterback, having thrown for 1786 yards on the season. The Wolfpack have never found consistency at quarterback and hope Pete Thomas gives them some in this game.
Prediction: Maryland by 3
Georgia at Georgia Tech (Saturday, 3:30pm)
Two 7-4 teams face off in this rivalry game. Both teams will be bowling but bragging rights go a long way in this game.
The Bulldogs have won 3 of their last 4 games while Tech has won 4 of 5.
Vad Lee leads the Yellow Jackets at quarterback, with Aaron Murray is in the midst of a huge season for Georgia at the position. Murray has thrown for 3075 yards and 26 touchdowns on a season where the Bulldogs have been ravished by injury.
The Yellow Jackets will bring their spread offense into the contest.
Prediction: Georgia by 3
Boston College at Syracuse (Saturday, 3:30pm)
Syracuse is not bowl eligible but hope to put a positive cap on their first season in the ACC. Meanwhile, the Eagles will feature one of the nations best players in Andre Williams. Williams has rushed for 2073 yards and 16 touchdowns. An incredible season, leading the Eagles to a bowl appearance. Boston College enters the game at 7-4.
The Orange will snap a 2 game losing streak with a win while Boston College look to build on a 4 game winning streak.
Prediction: Syracuse by 1
Virginia Tech at Virginia (Saturday, 3:30pm)
The Hokies will improve to 8-4 with a win. The Cavaliers will finish up what has been a struggle all season. They enter the game at 2-9.
The Hokies still have a chance to play in the ACC Championship Game but need help, particularly from North Carolina. They are led by Logan Thomas who has been inconsistent but has thrown for 2632 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Cavaliers have not won since September 21.
Prediction: Virginia Tech by 8
6)Clemson at 10)South Carolina (Saturday, 7pm)
In one of the best rivalries in the south, two teams looking at big time bowl games while square off in this game.
Tajh Boyd leads a Tiger team who has lost to only Florida State this season. Boyd has thrown for 3248 yards and 29 touchdown passes.
Meanwhile, the Gamecocks will ride the balance attack with Connor Shaw at quarterback and Mike Davis and running back. Both have had solid seasons in 2013.
The Gamecocks will look to earn their 10th victory of the season on Saturday.
